About the Business of Conservation Conference

Our objective at this year's Business of Conservation Conference is to catalyze a new wave of economic development in Africa by bringing together influential leaders to collaborate in tangible ways around one of Africa’s unique competitive advantages--its unique biodiversity.  The conference will serve as a powerful platform for influencing these key decision makers, propagating powerful ideas, and driving tangible collaboration and investment by the most influential African and global leaders for the benefit of Africa’s economy, its people and its wildlife.

Not just your regular talkshop

The conference will:

  • Catalyze economic growth- provide a practical ‘how to’ guide for African economic development through conservation.
  • Facilitate Investment- be a convening about investing in wildlife and its habitat so that African people can derive economic and cultural value from it.
  • Spark Innovation- support the adoption of more innovative practices in wildlife conservation
  • Mainstream conservation- create new and enhanced collaborations between government, conservation organizations, communities, investors and corporations for the benefit of wildlife and communities.
This reframing, we believe, is the only way to ensure the long-term future of our wildlife. This reframing will harness the best of human energy —enlightened self interest — to benefit our natural world.

There will be commitments

By the end of the conference, there will be new tangible commitments to:

1) improve conservation policies, (2) develop African conservation talent, (3) alleviate poverty/create jobs for communities, (4) use of technology for conservation, and (5) invest in wildlife/communities
